CONTEXT

When we evaluate talent, we need to take the conditions into consideration but also the importance of them.

Why is 19 points in overall, less interesting than 19 points but 16 points in the 4 th quarter. At the end of the
day 19 points is 19 points it’s the actual same amount, but the value seems to alter based on the
conditions and the context of the situation.

In another way, it’s the context that makes it interesting and measures the value differently. However, this
is where we are vulnerable to talent evaluation. The player with 19 points total but 16 in the fourth quarter
verse the player who scored 20 with 5 points a quarter, will be viewed differently. The former player is
remembered and thought about, where the latter is overlooked.

Both are valuable, both showed quality evidence of their professional profiles, and both are essential
elements of the team.

When we evaluate talent, we need to take the conditions into consideration but also the importance of
them. The 16 points in the fourth quarter means nothing if your team is being blown out. However, the 16
points in the fourth means everything if it helps your team compete for the win.

The player who scores 16 in the fourth quarter to help their team win is a hero, not the hero. The other
players that kept the team in the game the other 3 quarters are also heroes. The best team are a mix of
heroes being heroic in the moments they need to be.
